That paves the way for us to make a bid for Pope I saw Pope play for Crewe before he signed for Vale. He was utterly utterly diabolical. I know he's scored a few lately, but I promise, he will never be any better than league one (at best). He's nowhere near as good as any of the following who also didn't do well after stepping up to the Prem: Jermaine Beckford Michael Tong Tom Soares Caleb Folan Connor Sammons Etc...

Very unfair on Tonge. He never got a real chance.

There are very few League 1/2 players who can make the step up. More Championship players can, especially if they have some pace, but lower down there is too big a gap, I reckon, unless it is a young lad in his teens who has somehow been missed by the big teams' scouts (which is getting less and less likely these days).

Unfair on Tom Soares too. Him and Tonge have had their top flight careers destroyed by TP along with endless other signings.

Unfair on Tom Soares too. Him and Tonge have had their top flight careers destroyed by TP along with endless other signings. Any player that chooses to sit on their arses and pick up a fat wage has no-one to blame for ruining their career bar them selves. Even worse when like tonge they sign an extension

What - by paying them 20k a week to sit on their arses? The poor lambs..... If they were so bothered about their "careers" they could have ripped up their contracts and played elsewhere for a lot less money.

They're good signings for the Vale. Hughes OR Earnshaw would be a massive boost for them.

I think Alan Kemp is a bogus account, set up by admin to make ridiculous comments to prompt a reaction and get hits for the messageboard in the continued absence of Daves Views.
At least that's the only explanation I can think of for anyone claiming Tom Soares and Michael Tonge had their careers destroyed by Tony Pulis.

Didn't Lee Hughes go in prison once for a driving offence ?

Pennants got nothing on Hughes .. “Wasn't Hughes convicted of causing the death of father-of-four Douglas Graham, 56, by dangerous driving and fleeing the scene of the accident near his home in Meriden in November 2003. He also severly injured someone else in the same accident after he had gone to a post-match drinking session before his £100,000 Mercedes sports car smashed into a Renault Scenic. Also got sent off for putting someone in hospital while playing football for the prison .”

Hughes and Pope will be excellent at that level. True partners in crime.

Andrew Davies, Tuncay, Palacios etc. Andrew Davies, Michael Tonge, Tom Soares were not Premier League quality. Tuncay didn't see eye to eye with TP and was a luxury show-pony Palacios - well who knows. He's either lost the ability he did have, or has mental or physical issues. Either way, he's not good enough for us right now. The common thread is, that none actually did anything with their fabled ability after leaving Stoke, Palacios will follow the same path. Add in Dave Kitson while you're at it. Though he was just misunderstood.
