The word legend is commonly used today, Nat Lofthouse is a true legend of not just English football but world football and is in an elite group with Sir Stan.

One of those names that remained planted in the public's consciousness long after he retired from football. I never saw him play, I think he retired when I was very young. Even so, like Sir Stan, I was always aware of him and how great a footballer he was.

as a football fan you grow up hearing stories and reading of the genuine legends and pioneers of the game;
finney, lofthouse, greaves, charlton, matthews et al every club has one or two, just normal blokes who could kick a ball, simpler and better times
ther biggest tradegy is that there is not enough video footage of these greats to immortalise them for ever
