Completely out-thought us on the night.
Newcastle tactics brilliantly snuffed out Ethers and Pennant - they could leave the middle empty and double or even triple team up on the wingers secure in the knowledge that we don't have anyone who can go through the middle.
They harried us superbly in midfield and despite the pressure looked very solid at the back. Their league position is not a fluke.
A loss that should be chalked up to the manager not the players tonight. Being organised is good, but being completely inflexible in the face of superior tactics is not.
(As a side note I have to say Walters attitude is absolutely exemplory)

Hardly rocket science is it in not to play your best back four of last season but play a complete fraud then totally unbalance the lot when Wilson went off!!!

I actually thought Newcastle resembled a sort of Stoke City Plus. They shipped out three of their big name players but actually improved their first team.

And the latest winner of the award for daftest thread of the decade goes to............................... How can you say that? I think the original post is spot on. Newcastle arrived tonight well organised, they had done their homework and we never got in the game. There was no plan B, no reaction or change of approach. There was just sad repitions of the same thing that didn't work!

I was very impressed with 'Castle. They completely 'out Stoked' us and Pulis has a lot to think about. I'm afraid the players along with Pulis have to shoulder a lot of the blame though. Almost all of them were fucking toss on the night and Glenda Whelan was so bad he is the first player to actually make my eyes bleed during a game. Total and utter shit. I will be having a bet on Estonia in those play offs, when he's bad he stinks the place out like a tramp underpant sandwich. Wank, wank fucking wank.

Newcastle out played us and Pardew did his home work very well. personally I think we lacked drive from the middle, but this is a continual problem. I hope Palacios can fulfil this role.

And the latest winner of the award for daftest post of the decade goes to............................... march4 original post was spot on, it was obvious to see, if peenant had the ball 6 newcastle players went over to that side of the pitch and the same with ethers, alls was needed was a burst through the middle or a crossfield diagonal ball to open them up.................... ah well, we'll never see one of them unless Palacios gets on the pitch

It was one of a number of dire performances that are growing in number.
We look tired and jaded.distribution has always been bad but we got away with it through energy and pressure.
Add in a unsettled powder puff defence and we have problems.

We should play a reserve/ youth side thursday sod europe away and get our league form back (well at home). I think its time to invest in a quality centre midfielder un january to play alongside palacios, rory is a good sub to bring on now. Time to for tony to stop playing his favourites if we are to push on.

The 11 players that started last night were exactly the same players that started against Man Utd. Our worst home performance of the season against our best. The blame lies with the players in my eyes, simply 2nd best.

This is TP's team. He picks it, they play the way he wants them to.
What we saw last night was the same old flaws (unable to keep possession, completely one-dimensional, utterly reliant on set pieces) married to some new ones we've created in areas where we were previously strong (he's utterly fucked up the defence for no good reason, and with Crouch in the side there's no cutting edge whatsoever).
TP deservedly takes the credit when things go well. He has to take the blame when they don't.
Last night was less a wake up call than an air raid siren.

Good god Ada! At this rate of wrist slashing, hudsondog/waitingforwaddo will be making an appearance soon.
The end is nigh. We're doomed I tell you.

With a proper midfield yesterday, we could have run them over with diagonal passes.
